LIDO Festival, the latest and greatest addition to London’s summer events calendar, made its debut in Victoria Park in June 2025. The two-weekend festival not only showcased world-class music but also set a new standard for sustainability in live events, whilst showcasing its exemplary soundsystem.
With headline performances from Massive Attack (6 June), Jamie xx (7 June), Charli XCX (14 June), London Grammar (15 June) and Outbreak Fest (13 June), LIDO offered a meticulously curated line-up of artists, blending established names with rising talent. The festival’s midweek programme further enhanced its impact, providing free arts, culture, and wellbeing activities for the local community, reinforcing LIDO’s commitment to cultural enrichment.
LIDO Festival’s approach to power management strategy, in partnership with Grid Faeries x Ecotricity, set a new benchmark for sustainable large-scale events. The main stage was powered using the Grid Faeries 3MWh battery charged by the sun and the grid, a first for outdoor music events in the capital. Learnings were applied from Massive Attack’s Act 1.5 Climate Action Accelerator to develop a site-wide recharging plan and energy backup plan with electric vehicles, and sourced further site wide renewable solutions. The wider site recharge and VIP areas were also powered using the renewable grid supply from Ecotricity.
LS Events acted as the central event production agency, co-ordinating the power and waste management strategies with stakeholders and the complex supplier network. Pearce Hire, the lead power contractor and author of the industry-standard ‘Power Bible’, designed, implemented and monitored the entire power distribution system across the site. Their strategic approach enabled seamless integration of battery, solar and hydrogen sources throughout the event.
The Sustainability Management team, in collaboration with consultants A Greener Future, oversaw all sustainability initiatives at LIDO Festival. This included coordinating actions such as Eco Menu Labels, waste management processes, and data collection to inform the final CO₂ and sustainability report. The festival has also been assessed for A Greener Festival certification, with results expected in the coming months.
As part of the event's green power strategy, major innovation came through a network of battery farms supplied by Greener Power Solutions, which supported the site’s wider operations. Geo Pura provided a clean fuel source in the form of Hydrogen that powered Stage 2 for the duration of the shows and the “In the Neighbourhood” community programme with zero-emissions energy. Instagrid further helped minimise generator dependency during the build and break with their portable power battery packs, donated through value-in-kind sponsorship. LIDO Festival achieved a milestone in festival operations by running the entire site for 32 hours exclusively on battery power - a powerful demonstration of what’s possible with future-focused energy planning.
In support of its headline 100% battery-powered day for Massive Attack on 6th June, KB Events provided electric trucks that transported heavy-duty batteries across the site. This reduced emissions and showcased what efficient, electric-powered logistics could look like on a festival scale. These operations allowed the festival to manage complex energy needs, setting a new standard for transport and power at live events. Food operations were streamlined under the direction of LS Bites, who managed concessions with a focus on local, sustainable vendors.
Each day, LIDO Festival featured a cutting-edge ML3A sound system from Martin Audio. Supplied by Solotech and mixed by renowned sound engineer Robb Allan the system delivered crystal-clear audio that filled the park.
Beyond energy, LIDO Festival’s operational excellence extended to waste management and food concessions. The Nu Group (Nu Kleen) oversaw overall site waste, with zero waste going to landfill, while Waste Baling Machines provided onsite balers to process recyclables like cans, cardboard, soft plastics, and glass - reducing haulage and improving recycling rates. From power to waste, LIDO demonstrated what’s achievable when world-class operations align with environmental intent.
By embedding sustainability at its core, LIDO Festival aims to redefine what it means to be a responsible, forward-thinking live music event. With an uncompromising focus on reducing environmental impact while delivering an unforgettable experience, LIDO is on the path to becoming not only London’s newest festival but also one of its greenest.
Jim King, CEO of AEG Presents UK and European Festivals - “We want to offer the very best in all aspects of our events. From our incredible, curated artist line ups to delivering world class standards in sound, production and fan experience. This includes setting new standards for sustainability. It is not only a statement about the future direction of live music, but a practical one too. We want our fans to have a great time, which is only enhanced by these sustainability measures. It reduces the carbon footprint of the shows significantly, but it also speeds up bar service, produces less litter around the site, reduces noise and air pollution from generators and much more. This is about striving for the best in every aspect of the festival for the fans, the artists and the communities where we operate.”
Claire O’Neill, Founder of Grid Faeries X Ecotricity - "LIDO was a first for the capital - a major outdoor main stage run by battery and green grid. The day of the Massive Attack performance was a particular highlight when the entire event site operated for more than 32 hours on battery power alone. Grid Faeries x Ecotricity and all involved successfully demonstrated another way for an outdoor London festival. This is the future of live music. We’re looking forward to collaborating with AEG at future events across the country.”
