A New Era for Live Entertainment: Ecotricity, LIVE, AGF & MVT Team Up on Game-Changing Green Energy Scheme

LIVE (Live Music Industry Venues & Entertainment) has supercharged its partnership with Ecotricity Business and A Greener Future (AGF) in a landmark initiative delivered alongside the Music Venue Trust (MVT).

The Live Events Energy Scheme (LEES), powered by Ecotricity Business, gives venues and promoters a simple, impactful way to cut carbon emissions by switching to 100% green energy. This pioneering initiative will help further integrate sustainable practice into the UK’s vibrant live music and festival industry — delivering significant cost savings, promoting best practice, and demonstrating climate leadership across the sector.

Driving Real Change, One Gig at a Time

LEES uses an ‘energy basket’ model, allowing participants to purchase energy collectively, which lowers costs compared to buying individually. The scheme also offers access to deep green energy products — such as Power Purchase Agreements and Real Time REGOs — typically reserved for large energy users.

Launched in February 2025 by Ecotricity, LIVE, AGF, and MVT, the scheme aims to reduce the carbon footprint of UK events while strengthening financial resilience across the industry. With a co-terminus end date of 30 September 2028, LEES gives venues a long-term route to delivering climate-friendly gigs and events. Venues of all sizes are now encouraged to join.

In a recent landmark agreement, AEG — owners of The O2 Arena and Eventim Apollo — joined the scheme, paving the way for thousands of smaller venues to benefit from economies of scale and affordable renewable energy. The partnership demonstrates how arenas can lead on sustainability while supporting the grassroots ecosystem.

Dale Vince OBE, Founder of Ecotricity:

“This is really good news and a great opportunity for live music. By joining forces there really is power in numbers — thousands of venues can go green and have affordable energy. It’s a major step forward, and a proper milestone on the road to greening up the live entertainment world.”

Join the Revolution — Power Your Events the Green Way

By joining LEES and switching to Ecotricity Business, participants receive 100% certified renewable electricity and carbon-neutral gas from the UK’s only vegan-certified supplier. The more participants, the more affordable the energy becomes — while collectively investing in the UK’s renewable infrastructure and accelerating decarbonisation across the sector.

From iconic stadiums to grassroots venues, LEES provides:

  • Access to 100% renewable energy

  • Reduced energy bills and lower carbon impact

  • Expert guidance and tailored sustainability support

  • A credible route to demonstrating climate leadership through AGF certification

  • Collaborative opportunities across the live events ecosystem

Jon Collins, CEO of LIVE:

“LIVE, Ecotricity Business and A Greener Future have collaborated on numerous projects in recent years. From supporting pioneering research to celebrating sustainability at the LIVE Awards, our shared focus has been on helping live music decarbonise. Collaborating on LEES is an exciting next step that offers venues and events a route to 100% renewable energy.”

Chris Organ, Head of B2B Sales & Marketing, Ecotricity:

“We’re excited to be working with LIVE, A Greener Future and the Music Venue Trust to help the live music industry harness sustainable solutions. Live music has the power to inspire change and, through these partnerships, we’re showing there’s another way for the sector.”

Claire O’Neill, CEO & Co-Founder, A Greener Future:

“We’ve spent two decades helping events find ways to reduce emissions. LEES finally levels the playing field for access to truly green energy across venues and organisations. By bringing the live sector and the energy sector together, we can build new renewables faster and reach net zero more affordably.”

Mark Davyd, CEO & Founder, Music Venue Trust:

“Grassroots Music Venues want to lead on carbon neutrality but have struggled to identify suppliers truly committed to 100% renewable energy. We’re looking forward to seeing how LEES can tap into the strong desire for positive change at grassroots level.”

Carol Scott, Chair, LIVE Green:

“Tackling the climate crisis requires cross-sector collaboration. We’re delighted to work with Ecotricity and A Greener Future to create a green energy basket that allows live event stakeholders to buy renewable energy at accessible rates.”

Sam Booth, Director of Sustainability, AEG Europe:

“Signing this agreement has given us clarity on our energy procurement and marks an important step forward in our sustainability journey. Our hope is that our participation encourages others to realise these same benefits and multiply the impact.”

LIVE, LIVE Green, Ecotricity Business, AGF and MVT are calling on all promoters, venue operators, and festival organisers to join the movement and help build a carbon-free live music industry.
