More than 5% of global emissions are linked to militaries although countries continue to hide the true scale. But the climate costs of war and militaries can no longer be ignored. The music, sports, and event communities, indeed the whole world, are experiencing the trauma and disruption of war and conflict. Ellie Kinney represents The Conflict and Environment Observatory, whose primary goal is increasing awareness and understanding of the environmental and derived humanitarian consequences of conflicts and military activities. They seek to challenge the idea of the environment as a ‘silent victim of armed conflict.
