Global collaboration to make festivals greener.

Dr. Teresa Moore, Director of A Greener Future, shares her insights on the impact of our collaboration and the launch of the Sustainability Toolkit for Festivals:

Dr Teresa Moore (AGF Team):

“Working together with Prof. Jane Ali-Knight and Dr Gary Kerr on this British Council project was a fantastic opportunity to gain a real insight into the progress and challenges facing Mexican festivals on their journey to becoming more sustainable.

I was able to share the knowledge that we at A Greener Future have developed over the years through workshops and the development of a specially designed toolkit for festivals. Our video tells more.”

In 2022, AGF, in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University and the British Council in Mexico, launched a Sustainable Cultural Management Programme for Festival Practitioners across Mexico. This pioneering four-week training program addressed sustainability in festivals, covering topics such as smart power, zero waste, festival food, greening the supply chain and communication. Following the success of the program- AGF, Edinburgh Napier University and the British Council Mexico developed a Sustainability Toolkit for Festivals, providing practical guidance to festival practitioners worldwide on developing sustainability strategies. The Toolkit aims to help festivals minimize waste, conserve power and enhance their profile as sustainable events. Prof Jane Ali-Knight and AGF's director, Dr Teresa Moore share their insights on this positive global collaboration and the launch of the Sustainability Toolkit for Festivals in the video below:

THE HEAT IS ON: EXTREME WEATHER AND LIVE MUSIC

During last month's International Live Music Conference (ILMC) in London, industry leaders engaged in a crucial discussion on coping with the rising frequency of extreme weather events affecting festivals and outdoor events. The session presented at GEI16, titled "The Heat Is On: Extreme Weather & Live Music," was chaired by Jamal Chalabi, a head of A Greener Tour representing A Greener Future. Alongside Chalabi's leadership, the panel featured a presentation from Met Office meteorologist Prof Richard Betts, shedding light on the evolving climate patterns exacerbating these challenges. The panel also included May Ling from Australia’s Chugg Entertainment, freelance festival security and safety consultant Alexandra Von Samson and Thomas Jensen, co-founder of Wacken Open Air.

Jamal Chalabi (AGF Team):

“I do find it quite amazing in this industry that we still think we have a choice to deal with climate change, we clearly don’t have a choice,”
