A Greener Future for Venues and Arenas

At AGF, we work with a wide range of arenas and large-scale venues across the UK and Europe to integrate sustainability into their operations. Through consultancy, certification, carbon footprinting, and sustainability training, AGF has worked on various initiatives in collaboration with leading venues and artists.

AGF Greener Arena Certification
Greener Arena Certification is helping venues step up their green game. In 2024, The O2 Arena (UK), Barclays Arena (DE), OVO Hydro (UK), Uber Arena and Uber Eats Music Hall (DE), Forest Green Rovers - The New Lawn (UK), and Aberdeen P and J Arena and Conference (UK)  joined the ranks of certified arenas showing real commitment to cutting their environmental footprint. Check out the full list of certified arenas and find out more here: Greener Arena Certification | Certified Arenas 2024.

The O2 and The 1975 for the Carbon Removed gig series,
AGF supported The O2 and The 1975 on the Carbon Removed gig series, which removed over 540 tonnes of carbon by collecting audience travel data and applying verified carbon removal methods. AGF helped with the carbon footprint analysis, designed the travel data collection process, and assisted with the implementation of carbon removals, contributing to setting a new benchmark for greener arena events.

M&S Bank Arena & Liverpool’s Climate Action Accelerator
As part of the UN-backed Act 1.5 initiative in Liverpool, AGF worked alongside Liverpool City, M&S Bank Arena and Act 1.5 for Massive Attack, Idles, and CHIC to help accelerate net-zero practices in live entertainment. AGF provided sustainability consultancy, helped measure carbon impacts across performances, and contributed to defining decarbonisation strategies for Liverpool’s event sector alongside Massive Attack’s Act 1.5.

In addition, AGF delivered Lab 6: Mapping Impacts – The Air We Breathe on 29th November at Exhibition Centre Liverpool, in partnership with Civic Health Innovation Labs (CHIL) and the European Space Agency (ESA). This innovative pilot brought together scientific, academic, and cultural partners to explore the development of a universal, visualised data platform that maps greenhouse gas emissions and public health impacts - from air pollution to overall well-being - around live music and event production.

Supporting Arenas with Practical Sustainability Guidance
AGF works closely with both the National Arena Alliance (NAA) and the European Arenas Association (EAA) to support arenas across the UK and Europe in their sustainability journeys. AGF developed the NAA Sustainability Guide in partnership with NAA, offering venues clear, practical steps on energy use, waste reduction, and community engagement, along with tools to track progress. AGF created Arena Sustainability Guidelines on behalf of EAA, based on AGF’s Greener Arena Certification, covering key areas such as energy efficiency, sustainable sourcing, and social impact to help arenas plan and implement greener operations.
